The internet erupted after a user named Daisuke Shibamoto shared a shot from a Japanese farm area. Hundreds of weird items like frightening xenomorph eggs were discovered on the ground, and it appeared that something toothy and slimy was going to emerge out of them. The farmer, unlike the sensitive social media users, was not surprised. “Ah, nonsense,” he answered as if nothing had happened, continuing to work on his tractor or have tea with his neighbors.

However, for aficionados of films such as “Prometheus” and “Alien,” the graphics were quite exciting. Doesn’t the extraterrestrial apocalypse usually start with “insignificant objects”? The photographs are absolutely creepy: a lumpy, strangely shaped mass behind an icy shell resembles an alien capsule. From a specific angle, it produces the complete illusion that “it” is alive.
Unfortunately, the intriguing shapes proved to be nothing more than rotting cabbage. The farmer simply hadn’t harvested all of last year’s crop, so some cabbage heads remained in the ground to overwinter. Because the winter was mild, they softened and distorted rather than freezing completely. When the unexpected spring frosts arrived, the water in the top layers of the cabbage froze to ice, giving a frightening, almost alien image.
Everything within is currently decomposing, which is a natural composting process. However, as long as the strange cabbage anomaly persists, visitors and interested locals go to the field to photograph the “xenomorph eggs.”
