Lady Gaga’s free concert had drawn over two million people and the State of Rio de Janeiro’s Civil Police have said that they managed to displace a planned ‘bomb attack’.
Real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Lady Gaga, gave her most ambitious performance yet yesterday, May 3 at a two hour spectacle at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Copacabana Beach.
The 39 year old performed the event — which was part of her world tour to promote her album Mayhem — in free prior to an expected 2.1 million people.
The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police have since said that they stopped “a bomb attack” happening at the event.
According to authorities in a post on Twitter, ‘OPERATION FAKE MONSTER | The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, together with the Ministry of Justice, has prevented a bomb attack at Lady Gaga’s show in Copacabana, South Zone RJ. ‘The plan’s author was arrested, and a teenager detained.’”
The police, working with the country’s justice ministry, claimed that the suspects were recruiting participants, including minors, to launch coordinated attacks using ‘improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails.’
Rio state police intelligence is reported to have provided a tip that led to finding of the bomb plot.
Reports say that Rio state police intelligence had picked up coded language and extreme iconography online from digital cells that incited teens to perpetrate violence.
They stated: ‘Those involved were virtually recruiting participants to carry out attacks with improvised explosives, which they planned to be achieved for notoriety on social media.’
As a result of forwarding the tip to the ministry’s cyber operations laboratory, state police intelligence issued 12 search and seizure warrants.
They pointed out, however, that along with that the agents executed search and seizure warrants at targets in the states of Rio, Niterói, Duque de Caxias and Macaé, as well as in the states of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso. Local Civil Police forces collaborated.”
A search and seizure warrant was issued and a youngster arrested after he was reportedly found with pictures of child abuse on a gadget.
One led to the arrest of the presumed group’s commander. Wearing a bulletproof vest, pants, a yellow T-shirt and sunglasses, he was discovered in possession of a firearm in southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The statement included: “The DCAV, DRCI, 19th DP and the Core participated in the operation.” “I was alerted by the Civil Police Intelligence Subsecretariat (Ssinte) and investigations were called for,” said Maytag.
Now West’s show cancelled last year due to which health reasons, Lady Gaga had not performed in Brazil since 2012.
