‘Sanford and Son’ And ‘Ganja & Hess’ Star Marlene Clark Dies At 85

Sanford & Son star Marlene Clark has passed away. Clark played the role of Janet Lawson, the wife of Lamont. She was 85. Along with the hit sitcom, also starred in several films during the ’60s and ’70s.

Clark’s character Janet Lawson was a divorcee, and mother who Lamont meets in the episode titled “The Engagement Man Always Rings Twice” in season 5 when they began dating.

The two reconsider the course of their relationship in Season 6, when Janet’s ex-husband returns to try to rekindle their relationship. Lamont and Janet break up as they decide to end their engagement, with Janet giving Lamont back an old engagement ring Frad gave to them as a gift. Janet appears in six episodes of the series.

Other projects she appeared in include Ganja & Hess, For Love of Ivy, Midnight Cowboy and Putney Swope.

Clark was married to Billy Dee Williams.

As Variety reports, beginning in the 1980s, Clark opened her own clothing store on Melrose Avenue to showcase her love of fashion. She later managed Hal’s Bar and Grill in Venice Beach, where she worked for 15 years.
