You’d think that suing the person that disfigured your face is the normal way to handle the issue. But a Turkish woman turned it into the most bizarre love story as the turn of events had people shaking their heads in disbelief.
Berfin Ozek announced her marriage to Casim Ozan Celtik, the very same man that doused her face with acid during a spat out of jealousy.
The 20-year-old was then reportedly separated from Celtik when they got into a heated argument. She remembered the man shouting one of the most cringe lines you could possibly imagine that should’ve only happened in TV dramas.
“If I can’t have you, no one can,” said the man.
She filed a police report and the man was arrested. The man immediately love-bombed the woman and begged for forgiveness. He even asked to reconcile with her.
The scarred woman decided to retract, falling for his sweet words, and said, “We have written many letters to each other. I have given myself to him. I love him very much — [and] he loves me very much.”
Social media immediately blasted her for letting him out and demanded the man be put back in prison. She filed back the complaint, and the man was facing 13.5 years in prison, but with a change to the laws since Covid-19 spread, Celtik is currently out on probation.
With him out on probation, the public has been left enraged at the lax laws, and people were bewildered when Celtik brazenly proposed to the woman.
Ozek is now left with only 30% of her vision in one eye, suffers from excruciating pain, and will forever have her face disfigured. She said yes to the proposal and it has been a year since the two tied the knot legally.
Her parents have been shocked by the turn of events and she’s left estranged from her disappointed father. He told the media, “She married without our knowing. I’ve fought for her for years, and now all of this has been in vain.”
Criticism was poured towards the couple and the law. One wrote, “Her forgiveness shouldn’t have prevented him from being punished. It’s a pity, I hope not, but this marriage will end in a month or two, and the poor woman will remain with the brutality she experienced.”
“If asked who the most stupid person in the world is, I will answer by naming this woman. Next time, this man will skin her alive,” wrote another.
