Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz have been together for some time now. The power couple have had the picture perfect family dynamic. They work on music together, take expensive trips and have talented children. They’ve come a long way from the duo who was initially accused of starting off as an affair. Contrary to popular belief, Alicia and Swizz met well before his marriage to fellow R&B singer Mashonda. As teenagers running around New York City, the pair crossed paths, but sparks did not fly. Keys recalls being turned off by her future husband’s flashy demeanor. “He’d usually pull up in some fancy car, rolling deep with his Bronx crew and shining with diamonds. I wanted nothing to do with that scene or with Swizz,” she said in her memoirs More Myself. Alicia Keys eventually turned Swizz Beatz down, which eventually led to the producer marrying his first wife, Mashonda.
It was not till 2008 that things between them took off after collaborating on a project together. Alicia says that she noticed how much more depth Swizz had, making it easy to get caught up in his charm. By 2010 the pair tied the knot and have been one of the music industries most endearing pairs behind Jay-Z and Beyonce. Over the last 10 years, Swizz and Alicia have been very vocal about what makes their love work and how much effort they put into maintaining their marriage alongside their careers and family. They share two children together.
Alicia claims a big part of their secret is never fighting. While talking with Million Dollaz Worth of Game Podcast last year, the Deans claimed their children do not even know what an argument looks like because they’ve never had one. “We just agree that we gotta communicate,” Swizz Beatz said. They also speak at length about how they make time for one another, “there’s so much to balance. There’s so much to do,” she told Access. However, they work hard to make it make sense. This includes taking frequent vacations together and pouring into one another.
For the couples 11th anniversary, they went on a 72 hour date back to the place where they got married. Both Alicia and Swizz took to social media to celebrate the milestone and detailing how they spent days together to commemorate their union. “The fact we haven’t been back to the house in Corsica we got married at 11yrs ago until now is crazy !!!!” Beatz said. “Time goes by fast make every moment count.” The pair said they had to make up for lost time since the pandemic meant they had to spent their 10 year anniversary in the house.
Despite all the love and celebration, one thing Alicia can never seem to escape is the rumors that she was Swizz Beatz mistress. Swizz Beatz was married to fellow R&B singer Mashonda when he and Alicia started dating. While Mashonda went online and blasted Alicia, believing she was the reason for their divorce, it was later revealed that Swizz and Mashonda had been separated for months. Keys has had to defend herself numerous times over but is not afraid to set the record straight on her husband and their union. The singer denies ‘wrecking’ any home. “I was aware of all the false things that were being said about me; it definitely hurt,” the singer stated. According to Alicia Keys, her and Swizz Beatz didn’t start seeing each other until months after Swizz and Mashonda were separated.
While people still continue to accuse Alicia Keys of wrecking Swizz and Mashonda’s marriage, Mashonda has moved on and has a healthy co-parenting relationship with her ex husband and Alicia Keys. Alicia Keys and Mashonda have also collaborated on a book about blended families.
